3. Can an Aqua-Hot be retrofitted to an existing motorhome?

Yes, the Aqua-Hot 600-D model is ideal for the converted coach (i.e., Eagle, Prevost, MCI, etc.) while the Aqua-Hot 450-D is better suited for the 30' - 40' Class-A motorhomes. Please remember that either system is a complete replacement to your coach's existing heating system and domestic hot water system. This will increase storage space as all heating features are encased in one space-saving device.

4. Can I install / retrofit an Aqua-Hot myself?

Yes, our Installation Manuals will walk you through the entire installation from finding the best mounting location to switching the heater on for the first time. The entire job could take 1 - 2 weeks, depending on whether the coach is presently converted and completely furnished.

5. How do your heaters work?

Our Aqua-Hot is based upon a home boiler type of heating system. Major differences are that our heating systems operate on a 12 Volt-DC battery power supply and use the vehicle's on-board diesel fuel. Our heating systems hydronically heat (heating with hot water) the interior of the motorhome, and domestic hot water is heated "On-Demand" as it is being used. There is no need for a separate water heater. The main heat source of both systems is the 50,000 BTU diesel-burner. Our systems are equipped with a low-demand 120 Volt-AC electric heating element as well, and our heating systems provide separate interior zone heating and bay heating to prevent freezing of the domestic water plumbing when cool weather conditions are present.

6. How much diesel fuel does an Aqua-Hot use?

Our customers tell us they typically use 1 - 3 gallons of diesel fuel per day for all of their heating needs. The diesel-burner's fuel consumption is actually rated at a half a gallon of fuel per hour when operating continuously. We always like to emphasize, however, that a customer must be in sub-zero temperatures with the hot water running non-stop for the heater to operate continuously.

7. How often should I service my heater?

All of our systems require periodic maintenance. It is ideal to have your heater tuned-up annually. A basic tune-up would consist of a new fuel nozzle and fuel filter replacement, as well as a thorough cleaning of the combustion chamber, if necessary. This simple tune-up will keep your heater running smoothly throughout the year. In addition to the annual tune-up, be sure to check the level of water and antifreeze solution periodically and top off, if necessary.

8. Where can I get my heater serviced?

Please contact our Service Department at 1-800-685-4298 to find a service location nearest to you, or e-mail us Parts/Service.

9. Should my heater's exhaust system produce smoke?

It is normal for an Aqua-Hot to produce smoke for a few seconds whenever the diesel-burner comes on. However, if either white or black smoke is present beyond 30 seconds, this could indicate a bad fuel nozzle, a partially plugged fuel filter, or a low voltage (12 Volt-DC) situation. Please contact our Service Department at 1-800-685-4298 for additional assistance or e-mail us directly by going to the "Technical Support" page.

10. Can I operate both the diesel-burner and the 120 Volt-AC electric heating element at the same time?

Yes, both of these heating sources can be operated at the same time, and either or both will maintain the temperature of the heater's solution of water and antifreeze.

11. Does the engine preheat / motoraide feature provide heat while I'm traveling down the road?

Yes, the natural internal pressure of an operating engine will force hot engine coolant through the engine preheat loop inside your Aqua-Hot. (Please note that because of this natural pressure, the engine preheat switch does not have to be on). However, because the Aqua-Hot is thermostatically controlled, we recommend that the diesel-burner be left on while traveling. This will ensure consistent heating comfort especially if the outside temperature begins to drop and additional heat is required.

12. Where are the switches and thermostats to operate my heater located?

Please contact your specific RV manufacturer/converter for the location of your heater's switch panel and room thermostats.

13. Do your heaters operate off of the inverter?

No, the load of the 120 Volt-AC, 1,650 watt electric heating element will draw your batteries down much too quickly. Also, we DO NOT recommend that anyone installing our product wire the heater in this manner.

14. Do I need to winterize my heater?

Yes, our systems must be completely drained of domestic water anytime the heater will be stored in freezing temperatures. Be sure to follow the step-by-step instructions in your heater's Owner's Manual. If you do not have an Owner's Manual, please contact our Service Department at 1-800-685-4298 for additional assistance or go to the Manuals page of this Web Site where you'll be able to download an Owner's Manual for your system.

15. Can I disinfect / flush my domestic water plumbing system when equipped with an Aqua-Hot?

Yes, flushing the domestic water plumbing system with pure water is no problem. However, if you are disinfecting the domestic water plumbing system, be sure to follow RVIA's "Instructions For Disinfection Of Potable Water Systems On Recreation Vehicles." This will protect the heater's internal domestic water heating system from serious damage. To receive a copy of this RVIA standard, write to: Recreation Vehicle Industry Association, 1896 Preston White Drive, P.O. Box 2999, Reston, Virginia 20195-0999 (Phone # 1-800-336-0154) or visit them on the Internet at www.RVIA.org.
